Hi guys just want to pick your brains before I phone the dealer and dont want to look a fool lol. I have a problem with the rear doors thats happened before and just came back this morning. I go to start the car as normal and soon as you press the start button the rear doors pop open which is not good at all considering the dog is in the back! I'm really concerned because I dont want that happening when driving the dog would jump out to his death. It happend non stop this morning and the only why to stop it is to get out while the car is running and shut them or put in teh key fob, then hit the lock all doors button and then press start. I've not messed with any settings regarding starting the car, any ideas what it is, cheers peeps Phil ;-)

I had a problem with mine about a year ago. I washed it and as I was drying the car the rear door kept popping open. Also I couldnt open it with the handle, only the button on the key fob.

Not sure what the problem was as it fixed itself and has been ok since :?

I had similar issues with my wee R50 periodically in the last six months of ownership. Though quite exasperating for me my youngest one found it amusing that no sooner would I start the engine and the boot popped open, For about a week I'd a daily ritual of jumping in and out of the car to shut the boot several times before it would stay shut. It then refused to open and that was a bummer because I couldn't access papers for work and that just looked like an excuse for not having done stuff. I think I had two such episodes with the boot with the problem righting itself without interference from anyone. Quite strange really but I guess that's just minis. We give them personalities, almost humanising them so I guess its ok for them to sometimes be like humans and operate below par.

This happened to mine yesterday while washing it (again). Had the key in my trouser pocket and thought the button had been pressed accidently. Moved the key to my jacket pocket and it still popped open. Keep us posted as to what the dealer says.

Blimey that's worrying. I would get it straight down to the dealers and let your pooch sit in the front footwell in the meantime.

Had exactly the same happen on ours, same scenario and same resolve. Looks to be quite common. :?

back doors popped open on the A1 this morning. Booked into dealers to sort the cold start issue on Tuesday and they are going to check this out at the same time. Elvet Mini Durham have not come across this problem before so not sure if they'll sort it.

Was the car moving at the time, or was you stopped? This is what worrys me becasue if my pooch jumped out of a moving car & died (he's strapped in at the mo) then I'd have to hospitalise the dealer. Mine has stopped doing it now. I did a re-set, but its not good at all. They pop open when your driving with a load of stuff flying out of the boot and cause an accident, its not the best is it especially if it results in a fatality and you end up having to live with it. But it could be worse we could be in a toyota rofl - cant stop love, accelerator is stuck on and the breaks dont work!

Thanks for the info guys and let us know how you get on rustynail :-)

Car been in the dealers for 2 days. it's had a software update which took 15 hours to download and they have ordered new rear door handles and modules. They suspect water has got into the electrics on the door handles and this is what is causing them to open. Mine has open once on the move, and all other instances i was washing the car.

Also on the Toyota problem, it seems they can't steer out of trouble on some cars either. I panic now when one follows me.

Mwhahahahahahaaa rusty nail on the Toyota, thanks for the info I'll take mine down the dealers today, to think that has happened on the move is bad. I'm going to pour a watering can over mine now lol, when you drive off have you still got the auto locking on, ie when yours popped open on the move did you have yours locked too? Cheers again for the info :-)

yes, auto locking still switched on. I use a power washer when cleaning so may be forcing water into the handles etc, but they still shouldn't pop open. Also had the cold start rattle fixed now...........i hope.
