Well how can you have a mini and drive with some common sense and just plod along - errr you cant its impossible. But today I filled up the blue beast and we took a trip to Ross on Wye. So I thought hmmmmmm I wonder if I tried what MPG I'd get if I drove it with some sense. Well it was about 60 miles, mostly up hill and traffic on the m4 but for 90% of the time I managed to do a constant 56-60 mph. Well I'm not sure if the fuel ticks on the mini correspond to a gallon (give or take a few pence) but got there and not one gallon tick had come off. Looked at the computer and according to that I managed almost 80 MPG!

So on the way back, I thought, ah trip it all to 0 again and then I drove it with fun in mind and done around 70-75 for 90% of the way, plus 15mins of slow moving traffic, 45 on m4 traffic, looked at my after a full reset and I done 58 mpg. Also about 15miles in the I lost one tick on the fuel indicator. Did I really get that kind of mpg on a run or not. It seems like to me I must have got close. Fuel useage wise on the way up certainly seems like I got that mpg, and I know this will sound stupid but it sure felt like it.

Anyhoots, was a great day seen another clubbie (cream), ours looked fab parked up on the field at Ross. Walked the dog, and had a meal with kids n misses - good day out :-)

PS yes the drive home was far far faaaaaar more fun :-) Oh and the warning light, that will be my screen wash - will fill tomorrow & check my oil too lol :-)

I did a similar thing a couple of weeks ago, I had a 70 miles drive back from Swindon, it was about 9 on a Saturday night, I started of not going over 65mph, short shifting etc. :( anyway after 50miles I thought to hell with this and had a bit of fun for the rest of the trip :o

Anyway the average was a tad under 45mpg  ;)

Could I drive like that all the time :?:

NO WAY

Hi,

Interesting topic this! I have had my Clubman D for about a month now, I don't know if I'm alone in this, but I do an horrendous mileage (the main reason a D was so attractive) and have covered just over 4,000 miles in a month. In this time I have averaged around 56mpg, I haven't reset the trip computer, but I fill 'er up, run to empty and fill 'er up again and so on...usually 2-3 times a week; so far I have got around 450-60 miles to a tank full, which works out at a cost of about 7p per mile in fuel ;)
This is all on urban, B, A & M roads, driven firmly but not like a tit!
Does anyone else use their Clubman Cooper D for 40,000+ a year? Let me know...

Yeah, I'm regularly getting c.450 miles per tank too...driven 'not too tediously...' although I do short-shift whenever possible...this is running the Chip-Express Tuning Box (150bhp), also... 8-)

I also do 1000 to 1350 mile a week & getting 450ish to a tank, running a Chip-express & a Sprint Boost... 8-)

I do tend to drive quite hard all the time, but have started to have issues with the Chip-express & have to wind it back from its standard supplied setting to -10% :( :( :(
Might get better that 49.9 mpg

Ive had a clubbie D this week and very impressed with the economy. The car itself is a horrible colour and low spec but the driving experience has been fun. I have been giving it plenty of beans on the back roads and not hanging around on motorway but still returned 55 mpg.

Its done far better than i was expecting so probably end up handing it back with more fuel than when i picked it up  Best cain it home tonight

How does this tuning box work is it strait plug and play or do you have to cut any wires?

I can only comment on the Chip Express one - but, no, it's a simple matter of removing the black plastic thermal cover on top of the engine (pulls off), popping off the common-rail injector plugs from the top of the block, then inserting the supplied 'donor loom' in between the newly removed injector plugs and the block. Finally, there is a 12v supply lead to be connected to each battery terminal - 5 mins tops all in, and just as easily removed too.

Still happy with mine, I don't doubt that slightly inferior performance-wise to the best in-ECU tunes, but it was important to me to be able to remove kit quickly for services, with no risk of Dealer deletions, etc.

I paid £350 on eBay for mine (new) - although unsure whether CE are still selling on there?
